Disappointing Breakfast Experience at Splash Landings Hotel

We stayed at Splash Landing Hotel from June 8th to June 9th, 2024, and while the hotel itself has a fun, family-friendly atmosphere, our experience was ruined by poorly managed breakfast arrangements. When booking, it was stated that breakfast was included, but it was not made clear that guests had to book a time slot in advance. Thankfully, I checked the website before arriving and booked the only available slot at 8:00 AM, which is quite early for a weekend. The real disappointment came in the morning. We arrived at 8:20 AM, only to be turned away because we had “missed our slot,” even though the breakfast session ran until 9:00 AM and there were plenty of empty tables. The staff were unhelpful and rigid, making what should have been a relaxing morning unnecessarily stressful. For a resort that prides itself on being family-friendly, this experience felt anything but. The lack of clear information, flexibility, and customer service let the hotel down. Advice for future guests: Double-check the breakfast booking policy before you go! Would I stay here again? Unlikely, unless they fix their booking system and train staff to handle such situations better.

It’s always been a bit rough and ready this place and nothings changed in ten years: the rooms are very simple indeed, the restaurant staff are inexperienced and often not trained to provide good service, the clientele is very up and down with so many kids running the hallways at night and very loud late night returnees too (the hotel needs security staff to control and reduce this). The food was actually alright in truth although really basic. All round it’s a novel experience that doesn’t need to be repeated more than once every ten years!

Sole reason for leaving a review is for Peter at Splash Landings Hotel. He was so lovely! We arrived on 4th Jan to stay for the night for my son’s birthday. We intended to go to the water park, then go to the theme park the following day before heading home. Peter literally saved our trip! He told us of the awful weather forecast, advised us in the loveliest way that he would advise doing the park that day and the water park the following day and when I totally agreed (of course!) he walked me through how to change my water park booking date and times, also advising me on needing 20ps for the lockers rather than the pounds I had brought. These may seem like little things to others, but it honestly made the trip so much easier, less stressful and enjoyable by his act of kindness. We went through the park, and when we came back to check in Peter was fantastic with my two children. He helped us check in, allowed my son to press the touch screen saying he needed help. My son was beaming! His customer service was unmatched, and it felt like the role suited him to a T. He made it such a wonderful experience for us, and I hope he is recognised for his lovely work!

Our third time visiting the hotel for the Santa sleepover, this year was pretty lacklustre unfortunately but the icing on the cake was the fact that I’ve been completely ravaged by bed bugs, covered head to toe (literally) in bites. What has irked me more is that I expected a pretty swift response from my email, at least ensuring me that the room will sorted and no other person will be affected by this, especially as I slept separately in one the children’s bed. I’m just thankful, in my case that it was me that was bitten and not the kids. Pretty poor show from the hotel, we won’t be back unfortunately 😢

Been staying at Splash Landings hotel for many years on our visits to Alton Towers. Sadly the hotel is becoming very run down compared to our previous visit last year. Could do with updating.

Rooms a bit dated. Most uncomfortable bed we have slept in as long as we can remember. Like lying on a bed of springs.

Overall experience was average, our room was excellent (stayed in the ice age room), but the beds were extremely hard and uncomfortable. The noise of children running up and down the corridors knocking on doors woke us all up multiple times in the night. The buffet food (dinner), was disgusting and so so overpriced (£27 per adult!) We absolutely love alton towers but by all means will not be staying at this hotel again, especially after paying £900 for two nights which is crazy money and not worth it, when we could of stayed at the closest Premier inn which have comfy beds, great breakfast and is a lot cheaper than this hotel.

I understand that things cost but £26.25 for a pint, a large white wine ( and they don’t have large glasses so you have to have 2 mediums) a coke and a Fanta at the Ma Gurkhas bar!!! Ridiculous!!! The parking is abysmal in so much as the management team don’t appear to have considered keeping enough space for guests so you have to walk about 400yds (y this may be part of a Gov drive to improve our health thru exercise, though). It’s no better than average, at best, and that’s a shame: it could be do much better with done consideration.

We spent one night here for my birthday weekend over the summer. We have a Merlin pass, so it was the perfect base for us to stay at for our days spent at Alton Towers! Our 2 year old daughter loved Splash Landings. The room is child friendly and she loved the bunk beds! The staff are super friendly and welcoming, especially Peter, he was a friendly face upon arrival and asked us throughout our stay how we were getting on. The only reason I gave it 4 stars and not 5 is due to the cost of the buffet dinner! Super expensive for what it was. Sadly, we just wanted a restaurant that we could order one meal, but we didn't realise you had to pre book super early for this (in their sister resort). So we had no choice but to pay the price for the buffet! For two glasses of wine and one apple juice it was £25! But overall, a fantastic hotel and perfect for what we wanted, it certainly felt like the mini break we wanted!

We booked at 6pm for the same night as my daughter was shattered after being at Alton Towers for 2 days and spending hours in the pool! This hotel was OK but the rooms could do with a little bit of makeover, they are getting slightly dated and tired. They also didn’t have air conditioning although there was a fan in the room. The staff are welcoming and friendly! The hotel reception and the theming was pretty cool and they have a small arcade too, there didn’t seem to be any entertainment in the evening just a boom box. I would stay again but I’d rather stay in one of the other hotels here!

Ended up having to change on-site hotels due to a sudden illness extending our stay by a day, young lady called Charlie and young man with dyed hair supervising her on front desk were both extremely helpful, managed to get us into a room on extremely short notice due to the circumstances, room was incredibly clean and comfortable. Can only recommend due to good food, outstanding service, lovely room and close proximity to park entrance.

For a cheaper price than Towers Hotel you pretty much get the same thing, having stayed in both I can say this one has everything you need and you can still pop over to towers for the entertainment in the evening. The rooms have virtually no difference at all. The breakfast is not as fancy in terms of atmosphere in splash landings however the buffet is exactly the same. Definitely recommend staying here

Giving one star purely because of the breakfast. When booking, we were entitled to breakfast but unfortunatley it wasn't to our liking. The coffee cups were dirty. You had to go fill the coffee cup up, to go to your table to add sugar, to realise you don't have a tea spoon to get back up again. The food wasn't the best due to a bad smell from what I can only describe as 'potwash' smell. Hopefully people can understand what I mean when I say the plates and glasses smelt awful. Maybe it was just an off day they were having. But really was not impressed with the breakfast. Room was OK, water park was incredible!

Good Hotel, Great Location. Room was clean. Bedding is a bit uncomfortable and cheap feeling. The buffet in the restaurant is standard but both days we stayed the restaurant wasn’t open for dinner! So we had no where to eat, the only place open was in another Alton hotel restaurant which was rated 2 stars so we didn’t want to go. Both nights we had pizza from the bar which was decent. Overall a good hotel. Looking at the review probably the best one in the park.

Hotel theming is amazing! Been twice and both times got food poisoning from the buffet. Fresh fruit juice machines didn’t work both times. Favourite part of the buffet was the dessert. Our room was very clean but was quite dated. Some outlets didn’t work, fan did not work went next door the fan was literally emitting dust. All night I was up sick with the food from the buffet. The waterpark is amazing loved the overall theme. One minute monorail train from the theme park which is great as I have leg problems. Staff were quite helpful when giving us a spare key for the room, came very quick.

Great hotel, we stayed here for just 1 night and got the 1 day park entry and the next day free package for our family of 9. The rooms are on 4 levels but easy to get to (with 2 lifts) and we stayed in a 4 and 6 bed rooms - they were clean and a good size with everything you need (tea, coffee, biscuits) and a modern bathroom. The breakfast was fantastic, and was included in the price and had a great selection to suit everyone (can get busy so get in early)! Staying here also allowed for quick access to the park on the early extra hour for residents so we were in the queue for 8.30am and near the front. Self check-in was easy and quick. We didnt eat at Flambo's as its expensive but we ordered 4 takeaway Pizza's delivered to the reception door. The evening entertainment was very good and the games room was very busy but fun. The rooms are right next to the waterpark. Parking the cars was free (normally £7). It cost us £88 per person for 1 night in the hotel and 2 days in the park. Breakfast, parking and a round of Mini Golf and early access to the park was also included, so pretty good value for money.
